RON TALBOT


Artist Biography

Ron was born in Ipswich, England in 1945 and immigrated to Australia in 1956. He is married with two children and has lived in Alice Springs for 18 years and in the Northern Territory for 30 years. Ron started painting in 2002 while attending evening art classes at Charles Darwin University in Alice Springs and in 2005 he was awarded, “The Most Outstanding Art Student in Painting”. In 2005, in conjunction with local artist Sarah Brown, Ron held his first exhibition entitled “Beginnings” at the Central Australian Arts Society’s building in Alice Springs. He is a very active member of the art movement in Alice Springs, being a committee member of the Central Australian Art Society, a foundation member and co-director of Studio 12 (a collective of local Artists), and a member of Watch This Space Gallery. Art related achievements include: • Winner of First Time Entrant, 2003 Advocate Art Award • Paintings exhibited at the Kluge-Ruge Art Collection, University of Virginia, USA, 2005 • Winner 2005 Advocate Art Award and a regular participant/organiser of this event • Winner, Peoples Choice Award 2007 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award, Parliament House, Darwin • Commissioned to paint portraits for local businesses and organization • Founding member/Director of Studio 12 (a collective of Alice Springs Artists) • Long serving committee member of the Central Australian Art Society • Member of Watch This Space Gallery His work is to be found in various locations around Australia including Parliament House in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin and Alice Springs. Ron works in oils and while in the past has tended to concentrate on portraits, he has recently started to focus on landscapes. Like many others, he finds the colours and beauty of Central Australia irresistible.
